Welcome
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the home page of the National Aging
Information Center (NAIC), a new service of the Department of Health and
Human Services (DHHS) Administration on Aging (AoA). NAIC is an important
new arm of AoA that provides the information needed to help the Nation chart
a new course for aging policy and programs. By assembling information on
the needs of the elderly, NAIC is helping to develop a blueprint for the
future of aging in this country. Center patrons use this information to
support efforts aimed at improving public policy in areas such as
home and community-based long-term care systems.
NAIC compiles, houses, and disseminates information on key aspects of aging.
This information includes statistics on services and activities supported
by the Older Americans Act; demographic data; information on the health,
economic, and social conditions of older people; and services available to
this group. NAIC's charge is to be responsive to the information needs
of those who are working to improve the well-being of older persons.
This audience includes policymakers at all levels and branches of
government including DHHS, other Executive Branch agencies, and the Congress;
State and Area Agencies on Aging; Indian tribal organizations; aging
services providers; educators, researchers, and practitioners; and other
interested members of the public. Services include responding to
written and telephone requests for information and distributing materials
such as bibliographies, analytical reports, and other publications.
An electronic bulletin board and a public reading room are also available.
The Center maintains a database of findings and products of AoA's Title IV
discretionary projects as well as other publications and related materials.
In addition, statistics are available about other AoA programs, aging
demographics, and other factors relevant to the older population. NAIC
databases are nationally accessible via modem and the World Wide Web.
The repository at the Center contains copies of reports and other products
resulting from AoA-supported research, demonstration, and training projects,
in addition to other related publications and materials on aging. The
repository also contains copies of statistical data on the demographic, health, social, and economic status of the elderly; the services provided to older
individuals; and reports on the analyses of these data. The repository is
available for use onsite.
We are confident that you will find the services of NAIC helpful. Please let
us know how we can serve you more effectively in the future. Thank you for
visiting the NAIC home page.
